Ben’s Surf Clinic
It’s not hard to see why Lahinch is Ireland’s ‘surf central’ – a pretty village with a stunning beach, fabulous waves and the buzz and energetic vibes of a real surf lifestyle. And so close to Hotel Woodstock! A sandy, crescent-shaped beach, Lahinch Beach itself is one of Clare’s premium Blue Flag beaches in Liscannor Bay, on the north west coast of county Clare. The great thing about surfing here is that the beach directly faces the Atlantic Ocean – so it gets the full force of the swells, and is one of Ireland’s favourite surfing beaches. Hotel Woodstock can advise that surfing is best when there is an east or north-easterly wind, and a westerly, or south-westerly swell, and during mid-to low-tide.
Hooking up with a good surf school is the way to enjoy Lahinch surfing – and at Hotel Woodstock we fully recommend Ben’s Surf Clinic. Ben himself is Ireland’s most experienced surf coach, with over 20 years’ experience – and all his team members are professional, full-time surf coaches (ISA Level 2/3). The clinic offers lessons for beginners, improvers, intermediate and advanced level surfers. Private lessons are offered – both on a one-to-one and group basis. If you really want to immerse yourself in the experience – Weekend Surf courses, kids camps and week-long camps for adults are available.
Boards and gear are available for rental, while the clinic is the only school with its own indoor changing rooms, lockers and hot showers – the use of which is included in all lessons and rentals. There is also an excellently-stocked surf shop.
